To understand your financial values, goals, and concerns. To create a data driven, actionable plan that accomplishes your goals and addresses your concerns. To provide excellent service as a trusted financial expert.
I founded the Kelly Smith Group because I recognized the need that a lot of professionals, executives and business owners shared with me: financial planning services from someone who can relate to your needs, provide expert advice and top-tier service levels.
Prior to starting Kelly Smith Group, I spent my career in corporate strategy and sales. This has enabled me to bring financial planning advice based on my deep commercial experience in strategy, financial planning and risk modelling to business owners. I’ve also walked a mile or two in executive shoes at the Director and Vice President level that allowed me to understand the expectations and level of service required to meet executive needs.
At Kelly Smith Group we believe in addressing the financial planning first, so that we can gain a thorough understanding your goals and concerns while at the same time, create a lifelong plan that provides flexibility along the way. Once the financial planning is established, we integrate tax, investment, risk management, retirement and estate planning to build a successful outlook for you and your future generations. We are happy to work with your accountants, lawyers and investment professionals and where required, we can recommend top notch professionals if you require additional support.
As a family we enjoy sports for every season…our son Callum especially enjoys Alpine Ski racing while our daughter Mackenna enjoys spending time outdoors with her favorite four-legged friends, horses. My wife Kim and I can be found cycling, running or enjoying a coffee in the backyard. Kelly can also be found behind the wheel of a race car when time permits. As a family we also host an annual charity event in support of the Canadian Mental Health Association.
I started my professional career as part of TD’s exclusive graduate program geared towards developing top talent into the future leaders of the bank.
I left the bank to pursue my passion in financial planning. It is a passion I developed in university and one that since then I knew I wanted to pursue someday.
I joined Kelly Smith Group for the opportunity to further develop my knowledge and learning in financial planning. I believe that true financial planning is the comprehensive advice which brings a tremendous amount of value to the client. I knew that if I was going to provide the best advice for clients, Kelly’s knowledge and experience were what I wanted to emulate, and this is where I could accomplish that.
A member of the Varsity Lacrosse team at Western, I still play in the winter and have coached several of the last few years. Lately in the summers, my competitive focus has shifted from playing lacrosse to golfing and I can be found most weekends on the course trying to improve my game.
I have been a financial planning professional for over 10 years and enjoyed every moment of it. Prior to opening my own financial planning company, I was the top 3 consultants at Sun Life Financial for 3 consecutive years and later managed my own team. During my tenure at SLF, I was an integral part of outlining a client’s journey from the start of their career until retirement, helping clients achieve financial freedom.
I left SLF in 2018 to pursue another passion of mine. My wife and I were able to build a successful online fitness business while travelling the world. I stayed active in the financial services industry throughout this time and in 2019, was part of a FINTECH start-up company called Planly. As I’ve seen from the inside of the financial services industry, many people don’t have access to quality financial advice; with advisors pushing their own agendas on their clients. Planly’s mission was to provide all Canadians with access to unbiased advice to set them up for long-term financial success. Planly also won a Co.Labs competition for start-up tech companies and won.
While this was a valuable experience, I realized I wanted to once again, be in a position where I was helping clients directly. Understanding a client’s needs, providing them with unbiased education, and setting them up in the best way to achieve their goals is what I enjoy most. By joining Kelly Smith Group, I will be able to source out the best financial solutions for my clients so my clients would not have to go look for them. Whether you’re looking for advice on your mortgage, investment, insurance, or real estate, I would be able to help you out on all fronts. My mission is to help as many people as possible with their finances so that they can enjoy the other aspect of life.
In my early teenage years, I’ve watched my dad go from being a successful business owner owning multiple properties with a large number of investment assets to having to struggle on making rent payments.
Living through such an experience had a huge influence on my perception of wealth as a whole. I was introduced to the concept of financial planning somewhat earlier than most Canadians.
I have been a Financial Advisor now for the last 13 years, mainly focused on helping Canadians prepare for the risks that they cannot afford. My mission has been to help as many families as possible ensure they’re able to maintain and improve their standard of living through financial planning.
We live in an age where information is so readily available on just about anything. This poses a unique threat, which is “How do you know what information to trust and whether that information is in your best interest?”
At Kelly Smith Group, we are a team of seasoned, experienced professionals with designations to match. When you choose to work with us, we become your lifelong partners in protecting your family’s wealth and ensuring growth at the same time. As our high standard of practice demands and our regulators hold us accountable for, you will get nothing but made-for-you advice that is wholeheartedly in your best interest.
For over 10 years I have enjoyed helping families, individuals, and business professionals with their banking and insurance needs. Many of my clients refer to me as the “Lifeman” as I am passionate about educating clients on the different types and features of life, disability, and critical illness insurance.
The most exciting part of my role is getting to know my clients and understanding their unique situation. I use this knowledge to provide my clients with clear, fact-based recommendations for their current and future needs.
As a family man, I understand how busy life can be and how important your time is. I am happy to accommodate your schedule to discuss questions and concerns you may have regarding your insurance needs.
On a personal level, I enjoy a healthy lifestyle with my family including cycling, hiking, and working out, when I am not active with my family you can find me in the kitchen cooking up something interesting, as I am a big foodie.
I would very much like to help you and your family secure your financial well-being now, and well into the future!
As a Financial Advisor, I feel perfectly at home as an advocate for my clients, ensuring that their voice is heard and their Financial Needs are addressed.
Since 2009, I have been a licensed advisor helping thousands of clients, working previously for Edward Jones, RBC Insurance and Sun Life Financial.
My mission is to keep things straightforward and simple to understand so that the process is as easy as possible for you.
On a personal note, I am a father of one. My daughter is by far the proudest accomplishment of my life.
I am a football fan and like to watch my Scottish Football Team, Dundee United FC, whenever possible.
I sincerely hope to make your experience with Kelly Smith Group pleasant.
I began my career in Financial Planning and Life Insurance nearly six years ago and have not looked back since. My passion for this field is propelled by my want to ensure every Canadian is protected from the worst-case scenario of death, injury, or illness.
Initially, I worked in a small firm for an advisor that focused on business owners and intergenerational wealth transfer. Our primary focus was on family harmony and ensuring the next generation was well taken care of.
After learning from this advisor for a couple of years, I decided to branch out and start my own practice in January of 2019. However, I soon found I missed the team atmosphere I had grown to love while working at my old firm, and for this reason, I decided to join the Kelly Smith Group.
In my personal time, I spend most evenings and weekends with my wife and our two dogs going for hikes and exploring as much of southern Ontario as we can. In addition, I am an avid sports fan both as a viewer and participant, having played hockey, soccer and football for most of my life. These days I continue to play men’s league hockey and hit the golf courses as often as possible in the summer.
I look forward to getting to know you and your family and doing everything I can to ensure a safe and stable financial future for you.
